Department Vision
Developing Informed Minds and Compassionate Hearts
The Humanities Department is committed to developing students who are not just informed about the world around them, but who posses the critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and civic consciousness to actively contribute to building a better Singapore and world. Through the study of Geography, History and Social Studies, we nurture "Learners with Grit, Leaders with Heart" - young citizens who think deeply, feel compassionately, and act responsibly.
Geography
Geography helps students understand the relationships between people, places, and environments. Through Geographical Inquiry and hands-on fieldwork, students explore pressing questions about sustainability, climate change, natural hazards, tourism, and urban development. Our Geography programme emphasized real-world application - students collect data in the field, analyse spatial patters, and propose solutions to authentic geographical challenges facing Singapore and the world.
History
History develops students' ability to understand how societies change over time and why events unfold as they do. Through Historical Inquiry, students learn to analyse sources critically, construct evidence-based arguments, and appreciate multiple perspectives on the past. Our History programme moves beyond memorizing dates and facts - students become historical detectives, investigating primary sources, visiting heritage sites, and understanding how the past shapes our present and future.
Social Studies
Social Studies develops informed, concerned, and participative citizens who understand contemporary issues facing Singapore and the world. Through Issues-Based Inquiry, students examine topics such as governance, diversity, globalisation, and socio-economic development. Our Social Studies programme emphasises dialogue, deliberation, and multiple perspectives. Students learn to understand complex societal issues, evaluate different viewpoints, and participate constructively in civic life.
